Year 2005 saw several B-grade sex flicks end up as big box office draws. And the actors of these films into overnight stars.
And though it may not yet mean a sure shot formula to crack the box office, small filmmakers have not stopped making films with a weighty dose of sex & sleaze.
The trend has extended into 2006 as several ‘sex flicks’ have tried to set the silver screen on fire. Here is a recount.
Mr. 100%
Omprakash Makkar directed this film which starred Aryan Vaid, Mahima Chaudhary, Payal Rohatgia and Bobby Darling in the leads. The film did marginal business in the urban territories but ended up as a big grosser in the northern territory small towns.
Anjaan
The film revolves around a husband played by Vipul Gupta, wife Mahek Chahal and her extra-marital lover played by Shoaib. Th film was heavy on sexually explicit scenes and was released in February this year. It did average business at the box office.
Madhubaala
Shivram Yadav directed this film which stars Sameer Dharmadhikari, Nafisa Khan, Gurpreet Singh, Abhay Bhargava and Aditi Govitrikar in the leads. The film which released in March this year was much publicised for it’s overt scenes and dialogues.
Bobby- Love & Lust
‘Wet Bobby is coming to set your town ablaze’, said the tagline of the posters.
Rakesh Parmaar directed this film which tried hard but failed to make the audiences sit erect.
Husn - Love & Betrayal
The film stars Parmita Katkar, Yuvaraj Parashar, Nethra Raghuraman, and Sameer Dharmadhikari in the leads.
Seduction, titillation and some significant exposure from the female leads helped the film do marginal business in certain territories.
Bad Friend
Meghna Naidu decided to go bareback in this film, which looked to consolidate her image as the undisputed queen of B-grade flicks.
But the film failed to take an initial.
Beach
The makers tried to play up the bikini clad leads of the film as the USP. But the film got a ‘thumbs down’ from the audience as the film sank without a trace.
Deha
Jaya Prada will be seen doing lovemaking scene with Dino Morea in this film. It’s a film delves into women’s suppressed sexual desires and cross-generational love. It’s scheduled to hit theatres by late 2006.
Hot Money
Item girl Rakhi Sawant does a raunchy item number for this film wearing a skimpy two-piece made by coins. The film is scheduled to hit screens later this year.
Haseena -Smart Sexy and Dangerous
Ishaa Koppikar, Preeti Jhangiani, Tara Sharma and Raj Babbar star in this film. With a multi-star cast, the film is expected to draw in a sizeable opening. The film is likely to release in September this year.
