If all goes well, cinematographer-director Santosh Sivan could well team up with Shah Rukh Khan again — seven years after Asoka. Santosh, who directed Asoka with King Khan in 2001, has just completed his second Hindi film Tahan with Rahul Bose and Anupam Kher. “It’s about Kashmir militancy. Unlike my Terrorist, which was very blunt, Tahan is a Bollywood-style entertainer. It looks at the theme of terrorism in an entertaining and gripping manner,” he reveals.
Speaking about Santosh’s next venture, it’s touted as a light-hearted, romantic adventure. His first choice is SRK, but the superstar has a tight schedule, what with three projects this year — home production Biloo Barber, Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Karan Johar’s Khan. Besides these, he has the TV show Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? and his team in the Indian Premier League to concentrate on.
However, as he doesn’t want to wait too long to start the project, the cinematographer-director already has a replacement in mind. In fact, according to reports, Santosh has already had a word with John Abraham
Santosh’s SRK-Kareena Kapoor-starrer Asoka didn’t go down well with Indian audiences, but did extremely well overseas. Let’s hope this new project has a better fate, with or without Shah Rukh.
