Tamil superstar Rajnikant is to don a series of new looks for his forthcoming mega sci-fi thriller Robot .
Rajnikant is going to Hollywood to try out novel prosthetic make-up styles, estimated to cost over Rs.30 million, for the Shankar directed film.
According to sources close to the film unit, Shankar is accompanying the superstar to finalise the series of 'new looks' for the multi-billion-rupee project. This would be followed by a month-long story session, the sources said Saturday.
Shankar's earlier release Sivaji had set the cash registers ringing.
Rajnikant, who has finished work in his forthcoming release Kuselan , has begun work on ‘Robot’ in right earnest. The movie, featuring the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, will be made in the next two years, the publicists said.
A joint venture by Ayngaran International and Eros, ‘Robot’ will be the second film in which Ash will be collaborating with Shankar , and her third in Tamil.
Her first – ‘Jeans’ (1998) - resulted in Hollywood noticing the actress after the film was nominated as India's entry for the Academy Awards in the foreign film category the same year.
Ash also played a key role in ‘Iruvar’ - a Mani Ratnam directed movie that did not do well at the box office.
Music director A R Rahman , who composed extremely popular music in the two earlier Tamil ventures featuring Ash, is set to score an encore in ‘Robot’.
Shankar's movies have rewritten movie history twice on the issue of cost and number of prints, according to film historian and veteran Tamil journalist Anandan.
While ‘Jeans’ was released in 1998 with a record 240 prints at a cost of Rs.50 million (then the costliest film), ‘Sivaji’ (2007) is the most expensive release till date with an approximate cost of Rs.1 billion with around 400 prints shown on over 900 screens simultaneously, Anandan added.
