Veteran actress Nafisa Ali was so moved by Malayalam film "Ore Kadal" that she went on to declare it as her personal choice for India's Oscar entry.

"I saw the film (Ore Kadal), it was mind-blowing. The film should have gone for Oscars," Ali who spoke to PTI on the sidelines of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) said.

"Ore Kadal" (The Sea Within) opened Indian Panorama's feature film section in the IFFI 2007. The film is getting a huge response in the festival with director Shymaprasad already declaring his plans to release it with subtitles in India's major metros.

"That is a real film. It's a quality cinema with real cast," Ali, who heads Children's Film Society, said.

Patting the back of regional filmmakers, Ali urged the film fraternity `to look into regional cinema more seriously'. "Why is that India, which produces highest number of films does not get through Oscars? India produces quality films but does not get Oscars. That means there is something seriously wrong," she quipped.

Ali said that regional filmmakers make quality cinema of international standard. "This kind of cinema should be promoted which can fetch us Oscars," she suggested.

When asked about absence of Bollywood from IFFI 2007, Ali said that their presence or absence "does not matter as far as presence of quality regional cinema is there in the film festival."

She was happy with the arrangements at IFFI 2007. "I have been coming here (Goa edition of IFFI) for last three years. This year, the streamlining process has become more professional," she said.
