A grand play is currently being staged on the life of freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh at the historic Ferozshah Kotla here to mark the 100th birth anniversary of the martyr.
It was at the ruins of Kotla that on September 26-27, 1928 that Bhagat Singh along with his revolutionary friends had held secret meetings against the Britishers.
Titled "Gatha Bhagat Singh Ki," the play gives a detailed insight into the personal life of one of the greatest freedom fighters.
Eminent Bollywood actors and theatre personalities including Manoj Kumar, Om Puri, Jimmi Shergil and Rama Vij have given voice-overs to the characters in the play while Kailash Kher, Roop Kumar Rathore and Sarvjeet Kaur have mesmerised the audience through their patriotic songs.
The play to be on till October 4 has been directed by Lokendra Trivedi while music has been given by Mohindra Kumar Babloo.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikhit, who was among the first to watch the play, said "no better tribute than this could have been given to the greatest martyr."
Delhi Punjab Academy, Delhi Culture and Heritage department and Union Culture ministry have lent their support to the play which is likely to be showcased in various metros across the country.
