The regional passport officer G Balabhaskar inaugurated the permanent office of RPO at Vijayawada on April 8. The regional sub-centre will start functioning immediately. The bio-metric system is being introduced to curb fake passports and tampering of passports. The online passport application system will come into force from May 1. This will eliminate the long queues outside the passport office to a great extent.
