Akshaye Khanna has sworn never to work Subhash Ghai again, the man he once revered as his mentor. The buzz doing the rounds is that the seeds of animosity were sworn during the release of Shaadi Se Pehle.
Although the film was directed by Satish Kaushik, producer Subhash Ghai, it seems, interfered in every department of the film. And that was just one of the problems the actor faced.
The other being that Akshaye apparently had a problem with Ghai giving undue publicity to Mallika Sherawat for the film. “Shaadi Se Pehle was a remake of a Hollywood movie, which is a romantic comedy. But the Bollywood version looked like a sleazy sex film. Akshaye had a problem with the title of the film too,” says a source.
Speculation was rife about the relationship between Akshaye and Ghai when Akshaye didn't show up for the premiere of the film. “Akshaye is a very opinionated individual. In fact, it was Ghai's idea to make Akshaye wear that hideous wig in the film. When Ghai refused to pay heed to any of Akshaye's requests, the actor categorically told him not to blame him if the film flopped,” says our source.
The other problem Akshaye faced with Ghai was over 36 China Town. "Shaadi Se Pehle did recover its money, yet Ghai conveniently ignored the film and projected 36 China Town as a blockbuster," says our source.
Akshaye is happy with the success of 36 China Town, but Shaadi... was his solo film. "People didn't blame Mallika for the failure of the film. The success or failure of a film depends on the hero. Thus Akshaye received flak for the film and this upset him," says a source.
Ghai is known for his stubbornness. Recently, he had a fight with Shaahid and Kareena Kapoor during the music launch of 36 China Town, and earlier had a major show-down with Shah Rukh Khan when he over-promoted Mahima for Pardes, giving Shah Rukh a raw deal.
Repeated efforts to contact Ghai were unsuccessful.
