Even as Friday rolled in, the multiplex owners and distributors were still battling over the share of profits and the fate of both Welcome and Taare Zameen Par was hanging in balance. Neither of the two producers, Aamir Khan and Firoz Nadiadwala could do much but pray that a solution come through.
The solution did come through, but it was only for Taare Zameen Par. The distributors for Taare decided to call a truce and give in to the terms of the multiplexes, which meant that the status quo on the share of profits was maintained. The exhibitors were glad that the impasse was broken and that they had a sure-fire hit on their hands. But they have also lost a lot of money in advance bookings. PVR would have in any case screened the film.
But even they are keen that the film release in all the multiplexes. However, the distributors of Nadiadwala’s Welcome decided to push their demand for a larger share in the profits. The stalemate continued till late Friday night. Anees Bazmee, the director of the film was a worried man as he believes that his film is a very multiplex kind of a movie. And if does not get screened, it would be a loss for both sides. But he conceded that it was a business decision. His only hope was that some kind of a settlement is reached.
