Models can act, feels Koena Mitra. But at the same time expecting them to win awards for every role they do, would be asking for a little too much, she says...

Ticket to Hollywood

I’m playing a superwoman — a solo lead with two heroes in Karna. It’s a Pritish Nandy Communication film, budgeted at Rs 80 crore. But I’m contract-bound and can’t divulge more. The production house is trying to rope in Orlando Bloom, but it’s yet to be finalised. We’ll start shooting from June, 2008.

I was always a fitness freak

I’m under rigorous training for Karna. Learning Tai chi and other forms of action are taking up quality time. But I have always been a fitness freak. In showbiz, it’s very important to look good. If facing the camera was so easy, directors would choose from the passers-by on the streets. Fortunately, that is not the case.

Models can act

I don’t know whose brainchild the notion is that models can’t do justice to the greasepaint! Model-turned-actors are steaming up the screen with their well-toned bodies, good looks and right attitude. The biggest example is Aishwarya Bachchan. Now, if you want model-turned-actors to bag awards for every role they do, then isn’t that asking for too much?

Multi-starrers rule the roost

Multi-starrers are like complete thalis — there’s something on offer for everybody in the audience.

As actors we share the credit if the film is a hit and face the flak if the film fails. You are bound to get noticed in multi-starrers. Keeping in mind the direction towards which the industry is headed today, one can’t crib about just two songs and eight scenes. One has to sit at home, doing nothing if you refuse multi-starrers.

Item numbers aren’t exciting anymore

The entire Bollywood brigade has tried putting on their dancing shoes in some film or the other. Item numbers aren’t exciting anymore. It’s much better to sing and dance in my own film than do a one-off dance number in someone else’s flick.

Commercial Bengali films are a strict no-no

I’ve seen Konkona’s Bengali films and the one Sameera did with Buddhada (Buddhadeb Dasgupta), apart from Aparna Sen and Rituparno Ghosh flicks. If a good movie comes my way, then I would take that up. But please, don’t expect me to be a part of commercial Bengali films.

Where are the men?

I’m not a person who changes boyfriends like one turns the pages of a calendar. I’ve not been in a relationship for the past two years. Tell me, where are the men?

The most simple man is the most difficult to find. I want someone who is simple and honest. Men feel all the more insecure with a woman who’s in the limelight — he feels with so many eyes fixed on her, she can never be happy with just one man. But that isn’t true. Again, talk of commitment, and men develop cold feet. Mr Perfect is a myth. So, I’m single and ready to mingle.
