The biennial Medaram Jatara is the biggest tribal fair in Asia. The festival is held once every two years in the month of ‘Magh’ for three days with the main festival on the full moon day.
Pilgrims offer jaggery to the deity. Jaggery is popularly referred to as Bangaram It is offered as part of fulfillment of a wish. Some people offer jaggery equivalent to their weight.
The tribal festival attracts one crore people from not only Telangana but also from Jharkhand, Orisaa and other places. The festival is held in a dense forest at a small village called Medaram. The village is about 100 kms from Warangal.
The festival concluded today with the deities of Sammakka and Saralamma being sent back into the forest with full traditional honours.
Chief minister YS Rajashekar Reddy, TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu and TRS chief KCR were among the top leaders who visited Medaram and offered puja.
