Aamir Khan denies his director proper credit. The actor refuses to acknowledge Amole Gupte as joint director for Tarein Zameen Par

The Aamir Khan and Amole Gupte conflict is getting murkier. Rumour has it that the perfectionist Khan is not ready to credit Gupte for his directorial contribution in Tarein Zameen Par. The post-production work of the film is currently on and Khan is giving out instructions over the phone from South Africa. Apparently, the end credit list has just made its way to the studio and Gupte has been credited only for the story and screenplay.
Gupte is terribly upset with 'good friend' Khan's decision (the duo has acted together in Ketan Mehta's Holi). Says a source close to Gupte, "Amole is terribly upset with the outcome. He has been on the sets of the film every day. What Aamir has done to him is difficult to believe. As they say, the powerful are always right."
For starters, Khan had decided to produce good friend Gupte's script, which revolves around a teacher and a dyslexic child, but wanted Gupte to direct it. Gupte, who has worked on the story and script for seven long years was excited about his directorial venture. However, his moment of truth arrived when Khan decided to call the shots saying that he was not too happy with Gupte's efforts. If that wasn't enough, unhappy technicians walked out on the film blaming it on Aamir's uncompromising ways and the ever-growing conflicts on the sets. Says a source, "Amole not getting credited for direction is unimaginable and unfair. Aamir was not too happy with Amole's directorial skills. They have had too many differences during the schedule in Panchghani where we shot consequent portions of the film in New Era High School there."
When Gupte tried to reason out, Khan threatened to back out of the film. Fearing a state of inactivity Gupte gave in to Khan's wishes. However, after a little protesting Aamir decided to credit Gupte as the creative director. Says a source from Aamir Khan Productions, "Aamir and Amole were supposed to be joint directors on the film. But now Amole has been reduced to a creative director."
Amol Gupte says, “My creation is more important to me than myself. In the process of child care, my child takes precedence.”
Khan who is filming for Ghajini in Cape Town was not available for comment.
His representative also refused to comment.
