Arshad Warsi tells AT why he doesn’t seek adulation consciously
Unlike his other colleagues in showbiz, actor Arshad Warsi insists that he has no problems at all when people don’t recognise him on streets instantly. By self admission, he’s really a “normal, serious guy” who doesn’t like “being the centre of attraction”.
Considering his recent screen outings have been in comedies ( Lage Raho Munnabhai, Golmaal, Anthony Kaun Hai and Dhamaal ), is he wary of being typecast? “I have signed some new films that are not comedies.
My only concern while choosing a character is that the role should be good, and if it is then I don’t mind working in any genre,” says Arshad.
Arshad has just inked in films like Munnabhai Chale Amerika , Crazy 4, Shortcut, Teen Patti and Golmaal Returns, and wrapped up Goal .
Arshad’s small screen tryst might have been an “enjoyable stint” but he’s too caught up with “film commitments for the time being”.
Doing the balancing act between family and work isn’t easy for Arshad. “My wife Maria always shouts at me saying I don’t give time to her and our children. But I try and make up to them on Sundays. I am trying to make a rule for myself that I won’t work on Sundays, so that I can give time to both — my personal and professional life,” he adds.
Life is more simple and after pack up, “I generally try and be with my kids, check my emails or probably if I am late at home, I just take a shower and go off to sleep,” he says.
Arshad who’s known to whip up many delicacies at home says he does have a knack for it. “You give me any ingredient and I can definitely cook something good out of it. Today, I cook only when I get time. I always wanted to be in the hotel business, acting was never on my menu card,” he laughs.
Ten years from now, Arshad sees himself leading a more calm and peaceful life with his family. “I am ambitious about my career but I am not crazy about it,” he ends.
