Hindi films made up half of the 14 foreign language films that grossed more than $2 million in the US this year — more than any other language.

In its latest issue, Forbes magazine gave a thumbs up to Bollywood, pointing out that even big American actors are responding to it. George Clooney, star of Good Night And Good Luck, Syriana, and Ocean's Eleven, was quoted earlier this month that he would be willing to jump into action in Bollywood. "There is a small market in the States as of now, but it will be fun if it catches on, because it is such a positive way of looking at filmmaking, and I really love that. I truly think it's fun," Clooney said.

Bollywood films are finding wider release (and reviews) in US, making it now to upwards of 100 screens nationwide, compared to 3,000 screens that typical Hollywood movie storms.

But Hindi films are still aimed at NRI audiences and are therefore released in centers with large desi populations. In contrast, Chinese director Zhang Yimous latest Curse of the Golden Flower has been widely released and reviewed this week.
