All is well between Ram Gopal Varma and Ekta Kapoor. Contrary to recent reports that Ekta went to RGV’s office and had arguments with him, the two have joined hands to co-produce RGV’s next - the film based on the dreaded forest bandit Veerappan, who was killed by The STF (Special Task Force) headed by Vijaya Kumar (ADGP Tamil Nadu) in the dark hours of October 18, 2004 near Dharmapuri.

When contacted, Ekta confirmed that she is co-producing the film on Veerappan with RGV. She says, “After seeing the rushes of Sarkar Raj (Balaji Motion Pictures has acquired the worldwide rights of Sarkar Raj, which is directed by Ram Gopal Varma The rights include India and overseas theatrical and satellite rights), I asked Ramu if he had a biopic in mind. Sarkar Raj is so true to life and I felt that he would do a fantastic job with a biopic. Ramu told me about his idea of making a film on Veerappan and I felt that it was a great idea. So, Balaji Motion Pictures is co-producing the film on Veerappan with Ramu. The film will star new faces.”

Ekta adds, “When I came back from Ramu’s office, I told my mama (Ramesh Sippy, Balaji Motion Pictures CEO) that I felt like co-producing a film with Ramu. During my visit to his office, Ramu showed me the rushes of Contract and Sarkar Raj. Sarkar Raj has shaped out very well. It is easily one of Aishwarya’s best performances till date. Aishwarya and Abhishek simply rock in the film. Amitabh too is fabulous in it.”

Soon, Ekta sent a blank cheque to RGV. Says a source, “Ekta loved the idea of making a film on Veerappan. She had three meetings with him after which they agreed to work together on the film.”

Ekta says, “I have asked him to have an unlimited budget for the film based on Veerappan. This film needs to be made on an extremely large scale.”

And what about the rumours of friction between Ekta and RGV?

Ekta says, “I don’t know who is spreading false stories about my equation with Ramu. There is absolutely no friction. I am eagerly looking forward to the film on Veerappan and am very excited about it. Why would I co-produce a film with Ramu if I had a problem with him?”

Sarkar Raj, which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai is not only the first full length feature film of the trio together (barring the item song Kajra Re in Yash Raj’s Bunty Aur Babli), but also their first film to release after Abhishek and Aishwarya got married last year.
