Colton, CA - Dr. Dev GnanaDev, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center medical director and longtime proponent of quality health care for those who are less fortunate, was elected president-elect of the California Medical Association (CMA) Saturday during the CMA’s Annual House of Delegates in Anaheim.
Dr. GnanaDev, chief of surgery and medical director at ARMC since 2000, becomes only the second physician from Indian origin to be elected president in the CMA’s 151-year history. He will serve as president-elect for one year before taking office as president for 2008-2009. Dr. GnanaDev was nominated for the presidency by a CMA delegation from San Bernardino and Riverside counties and elected by the House of Delegates.
“I’m honored to be elected to this very important post,” said Dr. GnanaDev, who has been active in the CMA for 26 years and served on its Board of Trustees since 2000. “My focus has always been on improving access to quality health care for the citizens of this community, especially those who are uninsured or underinsured, which is why I had an interest in this position.
“With health care reform looming, I will ensure that those in our community have a strong voice.”
Dr. GnanaDev, 57, has won numerous awards for his work on behalf of lower-income patients. Earlier this year, he won the prestigious American Medical Association’s Pride in the Profession Award, given annually to physicians who have dedicated their careers to serving people with little or no health insurance.
Board certified in general surgery, vascular surgery and surgical critical care, Dr. GnanaDev earned his Medical Degree in Kurnool, India, at Kurnool Medical College. Dr. GnanaDev, his wife, Rosaria, and their children, Monica, Yamuna and Raja, live in
Upland.
