What's common between DHOL and MALAMAAL WEEKLY? Actually a lot of things. First and foremost both the films are comedies. Secondly they both are directed by Priyadarshan. Thirdly, both of them opened to poor reviews!

And now, both the movies can draw parallels in their box office fate.

Yes, just like MALAMAAL WEEKLY, even DHOL is now all set to be called as a certified hit if one looks at the progression chart of the two films at the box office.

After a not-so-great Friday opening, MALAMAAL WEEKLY had gone on to collect close to 10 crores at the box office. Though released with a considerable greater number of prints, even DHOL has made similar kind of money after the first week. In the same manner in which MALAMAAL WEEKLY sustained quite well at the box office in the second week to collect 6 crores more, even DHOL has shown a similar trend and fallen by close to 40% to add approximately 6 crores more to it's total.

However, DHOL may not eventually turn out to be entirely a MALAMAAL WEEKLY at the box office. In 2006, MALAMAAL WEEKLY had continued to sustain itself quite well in the subsequent weeks and eventually ended as a superhit with 25 crores to its name. On the other hand DHOL can foresee its eventual total in the vicinity of 20 crores which should still be a feat in itself.

DHOL would well be enjoyed by Priyadarshan as yet another good success before his much awaited and well hyped BHOOL BHULAIYAA arrives at theaters on 12th October. The film also marks the film maker's 8th success out of his 10 Hindi films released in the current decade. His only two films that haven't worked at the box office this decade are YEH TERA GHAR YEH MERA GHAR and KYON KI.
