The state government as well as many people in the twin cities are of the opinion that the Begumpet airport should stay and continue operate domestic flights even after the new international airport at Shamshabad is inaugurated.

Many cities across the world have two airports. Even in India, cities like Mumbai have two airports. But the GMR group is silent on the issue. The group has put a clause in the contract that no airport will be allowed to come up within a radius of 150 kms of the new international airport at Shamshabad. It now remains to be seen if the government can find a way out in the issue.
