Can Hollywood save Proposition 8? Angelina Jolie beau Brad Pitt recently gave $100,000 to fight the initiative. Ellen DeGeneres (she married long time love Portia de Rossi earlier this year has urged people to support the fight to keep the gay marriage laws active in California. Julia Louis-Dreyfus was on her show and voiced her opposition as well.
Proposition 8 is an initiative measure on the 2008 California General Election ballot titled Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry. If passed, the proposition would change the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California. A new section would be added stating "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."

The latest polls may show that the rest of California is tuning out the Hollywood stars. According to the Mercury News, "a new poll found that 47 percent expected to vote yes on Proposition 8, which would eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry, while 42 percent expected to vote no."
Earlier polling showed that the measure would likely go down in defeat which would mean that gay marriage would remain legal in the state of California.
