Do you relish compliments?
Absolutely and when they come from critics, that's like sone pe suhaga. We had a blast shooting Heyy Babyy.. now that it's a hit, we're wondering - what if we had all been serious during the shoot?
Have distributors been calling you?
No. Why should I get calls from distributors? No one has my number. They'll call the producer (Sajid Nadiadwala). Today Sajid and I've become better friends.
Better friends?
We're friends from our school days. Now we're asking each other.. why haven't we done more movies together? We will do more movies together in the days to come...for sure. I'm happy that the entertainment sector is growing by leaps and bounds. This year, I've scored a 100 per cent, with my two films (Namaste London, Heyy Babyy). Now-a-days, there are so many films..if any one of them runs, it's a big event.
You have Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Welcome coming up soon. Both are comedies..what's up?
That's a misconception. Bhool Bhulaiyaa is not a comedy but it does have some scenes that are comic. Its content is serious but the touch is light-hearted. There's one murder after another in a house. The person on this killing spree isn't even aware that he's the murderer. He has a split personality. And Welcome is also not a ‘comedy-comedy .' It wouldn't be right to disclose the story yet.
It's said that Priyadarshan and you have resolved to do at least one film together every year.
That would be my good fortune. Since the last three years, we've come up with one film together annually. He's a master when it comes to blending comedy with situational drama.
Aren't you limiting yourself by working with a few pet directors like Priyadarshan, Anees Bazmee and Vipul Shah?
What're you talking about? To date, I've worked with 14 new directors. (Pause) Maybe more, I've lost count. So many actors don't take the risk of working with new directors. I'm not working with just my ‘pets' or setting up a camp.
The script is the criterion for doing a film. If it gives me a chance to change my image, that's even better. I want to keep reinventing myself.
Is reinvention your mantra for success?
I don't know any mantra for success… no one does. But yes, I don't want to do comedy for a while. I'll be switching back to action roles for now. The last time I did an action movie (Family) was two years ago.
How come you're being teamed time and again with Vidya Balan and Katrina Kaif?
So? There are so many top actresses but they're busy working with other directors, other banners. They only work with big banners. That's their prerogative. So when they don't have dates, you make your own team. That's what I'm doing.
