The buzz for some time now has been that Mani Ratnam’s production company, Madras Talkies, will produce the next film of the directors of Oram Po, Gayathri Pushkar.

It is well known that Madras Talkies has thus far only produced the movies of the maestro’s assistants - namely Susi Ganesan (Five Star) and Alagam Perumal (Dum, Dum, Dum). The only exception has been Vasanth (Aasai, Nerrukku Ner). Producing the next film of the husband-wife team of the sleeper hit Oram Po would mean a huge departure for Madras Talkies. But no one seemed to be certain.

Finally, Behindwoods spoke to Mr. Pushkar today to confirm it one way or the other, and the director said Madras Talkies would not be producing their next project. We had met Mani Ratnam a few times, said the director, but it was not to discuss movie projects. It would seem, the director added, that people picked up the idea because they noticed Mr. Ratnam and us together a few times.

Let’s hope that for some future project at least Madras Talkies will produce a film for this gifted team of filmmakers.
