A delegation of TDP leaders who marched to the site of the Babli project in Maharashtra were brutally caned by the Maharashtra police. They were chased by the Maharashtra police who did not leave them even when they came back into Andhra territory.

This is perhaps the first time in India that a delegation from the neighboring state has been brutally beaten up black and blue. The arrested leaders have been lodged in the Aouranagabad jail. The TDP says that the leaders would not seek bail and will not leave without visiting the Babli site.

What is of interest is that the top leader are seen sporting a green shawl as against the party’s colour Yellow. This is what seems to have spared them from the police lathis. While the rank and file was beaten up, the seniors were taken away safely.

AS the Maharashtra police have no idea about who is ho, perhaps the TDP has made such an arrangement where the leaders sporting green scarves are VIPS and should be treated with care.
