Director Blessy said his latest film Calcutta News was an attempt to highlight a major problem of contemporary Kerala – women trafficking. “I have tried to highlight the issue in the backdrop of a love story,” Blessy told reporters here on Monday.
“After reading news reports about Malayali girls being duped and sold to clients outside the State, I thought about this plot.” The director added that in Calcutta News he has tried to change his style of writing and directing a film. “I wanted to deviate from the way I made Kazhcha, Thanmathra and Palunku,” he said. Blessy said it was not easy to shoot so many scenes in Kolkata. “But, from the time I had conceived Calcutta News I had decided to base the story in Kolkata,” he said.
