Kuwait-based Guitara band - backed by a Saudi prince - is all set to take legal action against the makers of Ya Ali for lifting their tune.

Bollywood has done it again. Lifting a tune, that is. But this time over, alongwith the success of the song, they have also earned the wrath of the Prince of the Saudi Arabian royal family who owns the company that has produced the original Arabic song Ya Ghali, which apparently has been plagiarised to come up with the Gangster chartbuster, Ya Ali.

Ya Ghali is one of the most popular songs of the Kuwait-based Guitara band. Rahad Shammoh, one of the band members, confirms that they are aware of the Bollywood rip off. "But my English isn't good enough. Hence, you should speak to our band leader Fahad Shammoh. He is in Egypt now," Rahad said.

Fahad adds from Egypt, "We are sad and upset about this incident. We had heard about Ya Ali from a friend in Dubai. We couldn't believe it then. Later, we saw the song on a private channel, and it is a blatant copy of our composition. This theft only proves that our Ya Ghali is good.

But I don't know why people who made the movie didn't seek our permission. From A to Z, we created the song. A hundred per cent credit for the success of Ya Ali is because of Ya Ghali. This also means that the income from Ya Ali should also be shared with us," he says.

The producers of the song are thinking of taking legal action against the composer or the music label. "The subject is being handled by our producer - Rotana company.

The case is in progress and we are following up with the company, the owner of which is Prince Al Waleed Bin Talal from the royal family of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," Fahad added.

Back in India, Pritam claims complete ignorance of the existence of Ya Ghali. "We had taken the rights for Bheegi Bheegi, and mentioned it on our audio albums and had then had James sing it for Gangster. For Ya Ali, I was inspired by a Muslim folk song that has been doing the rounds for centuries," he says.

However, singer Zubeen Garg admits to have known about the Ya Ghali copy. "But the whole song hasn't been copied. Moreover, this is nothing new in Bollywood. Sometimes, producers insist on this and composers can't really do anything," Zubeen says.

But will he want to share his profits with Guitara? "That is the producers' call completely. They will have to negotiate with the Bhatts," the singer adds.

Meanwhile, the members of the Guitara band are all set to come down to India within six months to explore a music career in Bollywood.

As things stand now, there are quite a few takers in Bollywood for Arabian and Turkish musicians. "I am a die-hard fan of Amrdiab and Tarkan. If Guitara is good, I would like to work with them too," Pritam says.
