Onam came and went without creating any buzz at the box office. Director Shyamaprasad's offbeat 'Ore Kadal' made it to the top position.

The top five Malayalam films are:

1. 'Ore Kadal' - Director Shyamaprasad's film is about an affair between a megalomaniac social scientist and a simple housewife, with Mammootty, Meera Jasmine and Narein. The film makes it to the top position because of its daring theme and flawless performance by the lead actors.

2. 'Alibhai' - Mohanlal's much-hyped Onam film, directed by his favourite Shaji Kailas, disappoints his fans as it has nothing new to offer.

3. 'Arabikatha' - Director Lal Jose has yet another winner under his belt. The film is about a Leftist forced to go and work in the Gulf. Sreenivasan does a good job as the hero.

4. 'Kichamani MBA' - Suresh Gopi tries to change his image by trying his hand at the comedy, directed by first time director Samad Mankada.

5. 'Naivedyam' - Veteran director Lohithadas tries a tested formula of a love story with newcomers, including Vinumohan, actor Saikumar's nephew. The story does less than justice to the talent of newcomers.
