Bollywood megastar, Amitabh Bachchan, has been ignored yet again by the organisers of India's most prestigious film extravaganza 'International Film Festival of India 2006' at Goa, who have not invited him to attend either the inaugural or closing ceremonies.
"As far as the invitations go, it is the Central Government which decides who has to be invited or not, General Manager of Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG)," Nikhil Desai, told a press meet here.
"There are thousands of accomplished actors, why single out a person," he said, adding that the festival was open to all and anyone could attend it. The organisers' endeavour is to ensure maximum participation of the industry, he said.
While yesteryear actor, Shashi Kapoor, will be inaugurating the festival on November 23, the closing ceremony honours would be done by director, Aparna Sen.
The unveiling of the IFFI Goa 2006 poster and launch of the official IFFI website - www.iffigoa.org - was held here today.
A gala film extravaganza will mark the opening ceremony with performances by Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Prabhu Deva and Ritesh Deshmukh, Desai said.
This year the festival will feature a special retrospective of Prithviraj Kapoor's films. A special screening of Richard Attenborough's 'Gandhi' will be held to mark the centenary of the Satyagraha movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi, he said.
A retrospective of renowned Director late G Aravindan featuring 'Kanchana seetha,' 'Thampu,' 'Chidambaaram,' 'Esthappan', among others, would also be held.
