 It's a cine story that went awry. Former Tollywood actor Vijayashanti now a TRS Lok Sabha MP on Thursday asked Chiranjeevi, opposite whom she has acted in many hit films, to buzz off from Hyderabad and shift to the Andhra region. "Chiranjeevi is opposing the creation of Telangana, he has no moral right to stay in Hyderabad. If he visits this region in future, he will face the ire of the Telangana people," Vijayshanti nicknamed 'Lady Amitabh' during her acting days ranted at a press conference. The latest cause for the ire: Chiranjeevi and his Prajarajyam party opposed the resolution passed in the state assembly on Thursday seeking to make Hyderabad a "part of the sixth zone" for police transfers and appointments. The resolution came up because the Supreme Court had early this week hearing a case on the matter declared that Hyderabad was a free zone. This means anyone from the state can get employment here for the positions under contention and people from other regions working here could continue doing so. The Chiranjeevi family — which is not only into acting but also into film production — has had a run-in with the TRS on the Telangana issue for long and supporters of the regional party disrupting the shooting and screening of films starring Allu Arjun, son of Chiranjeevi's brother-in-law and PRP leader Allu Arvind. The TRS had also undertaken a campaign in the region against the sale of a soft drink which is being endorsed by Chiranjeevi's son Ram Charan Teja. Chiranjeevi's Prajarajyam is the only political party to take a clear stand against creation of Telangana. |
 Noted music director Ilayaraja was shocked to know that he has been kept in dark for more than 30 years by Echo Recordings Company, which cheats him and his producers to the tune of Crores of rupees. Ilayaraja has been composing music for the last four decades for several films in all the southern languages. He and Echo Recordings Company signed an agreement some 30 years ago for releasing audio cassettes that was composed by him. The Company has agreed to pay him and his producers royalty on the sales of the music. Ilayaraja being a busy musician never had time to think about the deal and the royalty. The Music Company also taking advantage of his busy lifestyle, never bothered to pay his due amounts till now. Moreover, it has expanded its business with the entry of CDs and DVDs into the market. Echo Company has permission for making audio cassettes only. But, it has transferred all its music collections into CDs and DVDs and makes big money through its sales. Not only that, it also transfers its collections to other music companies like Aditya Music Company and obtained huge amounts in return for it. Ilayaraja complains that Echo Company also plans to transfer all his music compositions to a Music Company based in north India for Rs. 25 Crores. Firstly, Ilayaraja lodged a complaint with Ram Narayan president of Film Producers Association, Chennai. He suggested him to approach police to justify his case. Then, Ilayaraja complains the same to Chennai Police Commissioner Rajendran. Yet, there is no response from the Echo Music Company management. |
  Film artists and directors always make later-attempts to satisfy their egos, whether they are capable or not, whether they will succeed in their attempts or not. Veteran actor Mohanbabu and noted director K. Raghavendra Rao now makes such an attempt with their latest project to be started soon.  It is difficult to imagine an annihilation in Twenty20 cricket. The scope of the format doesn't encourage too many totally one-sided matches. However, it is equally difficult to imagine a more comprehensive victory than the one Bangalore achieved against Rajasthan in the 10th match of IPL-3. This was the equivalent of a larger, meaner boxer beating a helpless opponent to pulp, and then continuing to stomp on him just because the match referee had not yet stopped the match. And if cricket allowed for it, the match referee today would have halted the match long before it reached its end. Rajasthan have some serious issues to address, else they risk becoming irrelevant in IPL-3 even before a third of the tournament is over. The batting was in shambles, and it was not a pleasant sight to see the once imperious Damien Martyn being reduced to backing away to make room for every delivery, not middling any, and not once displaying his famed elegance and timing. Great things were expected of Michael Lumb, who came with a stellar Twenty20 record in English domestic cricket, but he looked lost on the big stage. The Indian batting talent looked out of their collective depths, and were ruthlessly exposed. First softened by Dale Steyn's 150 kmph thunderbolts, then opened up by the deceptive pace of Jacques Kallis, the Rajasthan batsmen then succumbed to the twin wiles of Praveen Kumar and Anil Kumble. Perhaps most worryingly of all, their one match-winner in Yusuf Pathan, was ruthlessly exposed. Against Mumbai, during his manic century, one fact was overlooked. Off the 100 runs Pathan scored that day, 92 came off 30 balls bowled by Ryan McLaren, Ali Murtaza, R Sathish and Sanath Jayasuriya. Off Zaheer Khan and Malinga, Pathan scored 8 runs off 7 balls faced. Today, facing bowlers of much higher quality than the ones he had pounded into submission, he had no answer. He didn't look comfortable against the short ball even once, and his 26 off 24 included two sixers against the most non-threatening of Bangalore's bowlers in Vinay Kumar. Bangalore have exposed a huge chink in Yusuf Pathan's armour, and if other teams with quality bowling attacks exploit it, Rajasthan will be in even deeper trouble going forward. While bowling Rajasthan were at least expected to do better than batting, since a bowling attack of Morne Morkel, Munaf Patel and Shane Warne was at least decent. However, there was to be no redeeming feature for Rajasthan on this night. Ruthlessly knocked over while batting, they were mercilessly pounded while bowling. It didn't help that the bowlers gave away free gifts to batsmen who were in form, having just chased a 200+ total in the previous match. A semi-final spot is frankly out of reach for Rajasthan. They must reset their goals now, and aim not to finish in the bottom two in this year's IPL. Shane Warne and the team management need to sit down and have a frank assessment of the team they have and whether the players they have chosen are good enough to win them matches on a consistent basis. The title triumph of 2008 is now in the past, and since 2009, Rajasthan have played like the underdogs they have looked on paper. Next year, there will be a fresh auction, and this time Rajasthan must play their cards right, and go for some proven names. If budgetary issues are the problem behind their not signing big names, then frankly the owners of the team have entered the wrong playing arena. To attempt to take on the Mukesh Ambanis and Vijay Mallyas of the world with budgetary constraints in a tournament and format where more money buys you better quality for the most part, that is a recipe for disaster. And disaster is exactly what Rajasthan are facing right now. |
