It is a time to celebrate, to pray, and for Bollywood stars who have a hectic work schedule, Ganesh Chaturthi is the time to take a break from work.

Say it with Prayers Rati Agnihotri, actor:

I don’t keep Ganpati at home but I make it a point to offer prayers till Ganesh visarjan. The puja that is done during Ganesh Chaturthi is very elaborate, so one has to make sure that the entire puja is done properly. Since I am not always sure about my work schedule, I do not take the risk of keeping Ganpati at home.

This time I am planning to go to Kiran Kumarji’s (actor), house for the puja. Ganesh Chaturthi leaves fond memories each year, but for me the ones that I celebrated when I was in Janti Kuti are very special.

A tough time to fight traffic Aarti Chhabria, actor:

My family keeps Ganpati at home every year. This is the first time when I would not be able to keep Ganpati at home because of some problem, so we would be going to one of our friends’ place to celebrate the festival.

Every year the traffic becomes very unmanageable during the festival. I remember once I was stuck in traffic for hours. I had a shoot and I reached very late. After that incident, I just keep praying to Lord Ganesha whenever I am heading for a shoot during the celebrations and interestingly I’ve never got stuck in a traffic snarl after that.

Prayers yes, but no bhajan please Preeti Jhangiani, actor:

Each year I celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with my friends Jyoti and Niranjan Thakur at their place. I remember when I was a kid, I went to celebrate Ganpati at one of our family friends’ place.

There I was asked to sing a bhajan and I didn’t know any. It was a very embarrassing situation, as everyone present there knew some bhajan except me.

It’s the time to visit temple Tara Sharma, actor:

Ganpati is such a colourful festival. It is symbolic of Mumbai’s spirit and energy. I visit the Mahalakshmi temple every year during Ganesh Chaturthi because I live close to it. In recent years, Mumbai traffic police has become quite alert but earlier it was not the case.

I remember when I was in school, I was scared of the crowds because people used to throw colours. Once I reached home very later because I was stuck in a traffic jam caused by Ganpati yatra.

Ganesha means miracle Anjana Sukhani, actor:

My house gets Ganpati idol each year. I am a huge believer of Lord Ganpati. One incident that I can never forget was when I was waiting for my results of mass comm entrance exam during Ganpati. I visited Siddhivinayak Temple and prayed to Lord Ganesha to give me at least one hint of the result.

And incidentally that day the pujari gave me two nariyals instead of one as prasad. I took as a blessing from the Lord and fortunately I cleared the exam with very good marks.

To sing or not to sing Geeta Basra, actor:

Before coming to India I had never celebrated Ganpati in London. Now I celebrate the festival with society members of the place where I live. There are entertainment shows, which I enjoy very much. I love the prayer that is offered to Lord Ganesha.

On the first Ganpati that I celebrated with society members, somebody suddenly announced my name and asked me to sing on stage. I was so nervous, but somehow I gathered the courage to sing something.
