The proverbial sex bombs of Bollywood sobered down a bit in year 2006. On the other hand, some actresses from the top league slipped into sexy bikinis.
Nigar Khan is sadly out of action. Neha Dhupia , who once swore that “only SRK or Sex sells in Bollywood”, is now eating her own words. Mallika Sherawat , who needs no introduction, is now seen fully dressed in movies. Payal Rohatgi, the busty babe, is now looking for acting oriented roles only. Rakhi Sawant is still doing her jiggling and booty shaking. But then, who wants to see her anymore.
What was once the writing on the wall is now a mere scribble on the sand. The skin flicks are suddenly out of fashion. The deep cleavages are covered and thundering thighs are safely hidden behind decent clothes. For a section of viewers who seek titillation in films, year 2006 should never have come.
Mallika Sherawat , who is still the undisputed sex bomb of Bollywood, did what she does best in just one movie, Shaadi Se Pehle , and that too in a very restrained way. Then she took a U-Turn and was seen fully dressed in Pyar Ke Side Effects . In one scene in the film, Mallika even looks at the skimpily dressed Sophie Choudhary (playing a singer) and says: “I can never wear a dress like that.” Who could have thought we would see such a day in Bollywood?
Neha Dhupia , who once set new standards of skin show with flicks like Julie and Sheesha , suddenly turned her back to sexy roles and was seen in an all-new non-glamourous avatar in Chup Chup Ke . The actress has apparently vowed never to go into the sleazy streak again and is doing only those films that can prove her acting mettle.
Payal Rohatgi did provide some hot stuff in two very aptly titled movies: Men Not Allowed and ‘Ek Se Mera Kya Hoga’. But then, she also had a change of mind and decided not to indulge in skin show. What followed were miniature roles in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Corporate and Sangeeth Sivan’s Apna Sapna Money Money . But Payal seems happier with small roles in big movies than meaty roles in sleazy films.
Celina Jaitley , thankfully, did not fall into the image makeover trap. She walked out of the sea in a tiny red bikini in Jawani Diwani and continued to flaunt her assets in films like Tom Dick And Harry and ‘Apna Sapna Money Money’.
Mona Chopra , who has strangely changed her name to Sherlyn Chopra , is perhaps the only sex bomb still ticking. She was seen playing a sex teacher to a young boy in Naughty Boy . And the coming months will see her in Game and Red Swastika , both skin flicks.
The coming months will also see two bombshells Monalisa and Janki Shah in Love Guru (Don’t miss the stills).
If 2006 saw sexy sirens sobering down, top actresses like Bipasha Basu and Aishwarya Rai did ooze a lot of oomph in the action thriller Dhoom 2 . For the first time in her career, Ash slipped into revealing and provocative clothes. But sadly, she could not outshine Bipasha, who kept the viewers riveted whenever the camera scanned her anatomy.
