I accepted Fashion to prove a point...

After having been a successful model, I wanted to give films a try. I got numerous offers, but it was the script of Fashion that intrigued me. When I look at the fate of some of the films I’ve refused, I just thank god that I didn’t do them! As a fresher and being cast in a team that boasted some of the biggest names in the industry, I’m proud that I’ve created history with my role as Janet.

I trained myself to air-kiss when I came to Mumbai....

Bollywood is a big world and I was lost when I first came here from Pune. It was a scene straight out of Fashion; being a small-town girl, during my early days, I too learnt to air-kiss and be seen in the right party circuits. It’s also the time I discovered that unless you’re a star kid, a newbie will always be treated like one — irrespective of whether you’re a supermodel or god.

Kangna is moody, but Priyanka is friendly....

When I signed Fashion, I was apprehensive about being overshadowed by Priyanka Chopra and Kangna Ranaut’s presence, or if they’d cold shoulder me. But there were no catfights or snubbing. Madhur gave me a memorable role and the cast made me feel comfortable. Especially Priyanka; she’s full of energy and very down to earth. Kangna, though, would keep to herself because she’s quite moody. She and I attended Kathak classes together, so Kangna’s cordial when we meet.

The fashion industry isn’t just about sex and drugs....

Though there may be traces of it, not all models are like that. They’re spoilt for choice; it’s easy to get carried away because you have access to so many things. Even I’ve been part of the glitz and glamour when I was a model. At 21, I had a house and my own car. I also would’ve made the wrong choices if my parents hadn’t kept me grounded.

I wouldn’t mind marrying a gay man, like I did in Fashion....

Some of my best friends are gay and they understand me better than anyone else. It’s really sad that homosexuality isn’t legalised in our country. I share all my thoughts with these guys and they don’t ever get envious or bitchy like others. So, tomorrow if one of them asked me to marry him, I wouldn’t mind. For me, sex is not a priority in life, but bonding and friendship are. This is far nobler than being married to someone and having an extra-marital relationship on the sly.

I love that scene in which my gay friend, Sameer, proposes....

It was a church scene and it means so much to me because I’m a sensitive person. Is scene ke upar poori picture ban sakthi hai. Another of my favourite moments is when Priyanka tells Mrs Sareen that she’s had an abortion. It really stood out.
