A pall of gloom descended on the Hindi film industry on the demise of veteran filmmaker BR Chopra.

Ace Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan remembers legendary filmmaker BR Chopra and has appraised him as a Bollywood pillar.

According to Big B, BR Chopra’s death has been a personal loss for him. He considers it has a huge tragedy for the Hindi film industry.

Bachchan said, "He was a pillar of the industry. We've lost a stalwart. The core of humanism and social relevance remained with Chopra saab till the end.” He believes that BR Chopra was always open to ideas.

Big B has a long association with BR Chopra. "Chopra saab and I go back a long way. I've worked for many years with him. When Chopra saab's son Ravi started his career as a director with Zameer, I played the lead in it," he said.

Big B believes that BR Chopra was always open to ideas. "In Bhootnath, the pitra-paksh, the last rites for the parents' soul, was brought in. And I had a hand in it. I suggested the pitra-paksh be incorporated into the script. Yes, that suggestion was incorporated by Chopra saab and his son Ravi. They were always open to ideas,” added Big B.

The 94 year old filmmaker died at his Mumbai residence in suburban Juhu Wednesday after a prolonged illness.

Born on 22nd April 1914 in the Ludhiana, Punjab, B R Chopra was one of India's most respected film personalities. He is known for some of Hindi cinema's timeless classics like NAYA DAUR, GUMRAAH, HUMRAAZ, DHUND and NIKAAH to name a few. Almost all his films had a strong social message to convey to the public in an entertaining way.
