Mani Ratnam's next film, which will star Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, will be based on caste issues, according to sources. The buzz recently has been that the husband and wife duo would be playing Ram and Sita in Ratnam's film.
Apparently that piece of news was false. Mani is not making a film on the Ramayan but one based on caste issues. Hence, there is no Ram or Sita in his film. The film, which has yet to receive a title, is also believed to star Govinda, Ravi Kishan, Ranbir Kapoor and Tejaswini Kolhapure.
It is expected to go on the floors very soon. In fact the latest buzz doing the rounds is that the film's budget has been pegged at some Rs 150 crores and most of the actors have committed bulk dates to Mani Sir. It is believed that Ravi Kishan and Abhishek will play brothers in the film. Their characters will supposedly be of a low cast in the film. The film's shoot is likely to take place in the villages of North India. Mani has done enough research on the topic of casteism in Indian society.
