Karisma Kapoor’s comeback has been foiled by fear. She chickened out of Lamha because she didn’t want to shoot in Kashmir

If G S Entertainment's head honcho Bunty Walia and National award winning director Rahul Dholakia had their way, Karisma Kapoor would have made her much-touted comeback on the big screen opposite Sanjay Dutt in Lamha.

Karisma had been finalised to play the female lead in Lamha, but she chickened out at the last minute because she feared shooting in the troubled Kashmir valley where a significant part of the film is going to be shot.

However, the search for the girl to star opposite Sanjay Dutt in the film is over. Bipasha Basu has replaced Karisma in Lamha.

When contacted, Bunty Walia confirmed and said, “Yes. Bipasha is doing Lamha. She suits the role perfectly.”

Earlier, there were also rumours that Amisha Patel and Sonam Kapoor might star opposite Sanju. Rahul Dholakia said, “Like we do in every casting process, Bunty had spoken to a few other girls. We had finalised on Karisma who said that she loved the role. But later, she got back to Bunty and told him that she had reservations about shooting in the Kashmir valley.”

Rahul and Bunty of course are happy to have Bipasha on board. “Bipasha is willing to spend a lot of time in the Kashmir valley and learn the way that a Kashmiri girl should speak. We are not disappointed that Karisma is not doing the film. Bipasha is a big star with commercial appeal.

Also, Bipasha has no fears about going to the Kashmir valley and that is very important. Moreover, she is ready to perform several stunts in the film which is an integral part of her character,” said Rahul.

Lamha is based on Kashmir and will throw light on different issues ranging from terrorists, the army, the displaced Kashmiri pundits and the locals. It's a story about an army man and his love interest in Kashmir, but at the same time, it will portray the various issues that Kashmir has been facing for years now. The film is slated to go on the floors this October. “We will complete the film by December-end,” added Bunty.
