Fed-up with the kind of roles that she was being offered in Bollywood, Lara Dutta has decided to help herself. She has almost completed writing a script for herself and will also be producing the film.

Two films that Lara refused recently are Sohail-Salman Khan’s Mr & Mrs Khanna and David Dhawan’s Hook Ya Crook roles which later went to Kareena Kapoor and Vidya Balan respectively.

Will she also direct it? “No I’m not ready to direct yet. I’ve completed two drafts, and I think it needs one more draft and then I’ll be ready,” said Lara.

What prompted her to write a script for herself? “Scriptwriters in Bollywood aren’t writing anything in-depth for women. Invariably, the scripts glorify the hero while the lead actress only remains his love interest.

And the women-oriented films are half-baked attempts at feminist statements. Both are uninspiring to me,” said Lara.

But interestingly, Lara has not written a woman-oriented film. “It has equal space for the male as well as the female protagonist. It’s not one of those in-your-face feminist films. The male lead will have a lot to contribute to my film,” added Lara.

And yes, Lara will produce the film too. “We start soon. It will be an out-and-out commercial film. I can’t wait to get started,” she said excitedly.

However, Lara refused to tell whether Dino Morea, who is rumoured to be her new love interest, will play the lead or not.

Talking about the process of scriptwriting, she said, “I’ve always been a writer. Now what I do is, in-between shots instead of chatting or sleeping I write my script. I can't write unless I’ve noise all around me.”
