Bhoot has vanished from Ram Gopal Varma's upcoming film Phoonk and evil forces have taken over. The director who scared the hell out of people with a pretatma in film Bhoot claims Phoonk is not another ghost story and it's all about the evil forces.

"The film is not about any spirit or pretatma. It's a black magic story. The film talks about the evil forces that are out to kill a family," says the director.

The director who has earlier churned out horror films like Raat, Bhoot, Vaastu Shastra and thriller film Kaun under his production house knows how to play with the minds of people. "It's the imagination of the people that scare them. Mind plays games with us when we are alone. Even an idol of god seems scary when nobody is around. I have tried to create fear through this psychology," says Ram Gopal Varma

To bring the fear next door, the director picked up simple characters from the daily life of people. "I wanted the whole family to look believable. It could be any family. I avoided using larger than life characters."

Ramu though an atheist doesn't rule out the possibility of the existence of dark forces. "I am too small to say that these things don't exist. It's debatable. If it didn't happen to me, it doesn't mean that I refuse to believe in them."

The director is known for his unique camera angles and sound effects. He has made optimum use of camera movements and sound effects to create the desired impact in Phoonk "In a horror film, you need to use your camera movements and background music to heighten the sense of fear. While in other genres, these things take a backseat."

The director has doled out some experimental movies in horror genre that was till sometime back restricted to clichéd ghost stories. Now everybody seems to be going the horror way, thanks to Ramu. "It's the technical finesse and actor's performances that make the difference. The treatment of the film matters."

One thing that remains common in his films is the hard-hitting nature of the story. Ram Gopal Varma admits he hasn't made a film like Rangeela for a long time and has now announced a film on Media. "It will bring out both the positive and negative aspects of Media," he says about the film.
