Ram Gopal Varma 's, Sarkar Raj , has joined the long list of Indian films that have managed to procure a place for themselves in the prestigious Academy of Motion Pictures Library of the Oscar library.

The script will be available for the reference of cinema students. ‘ Sarkar Raj’, which is a sequel of Varma's Sarkar , talks about the powerful Nagre family in Mumbai.

The film starred the Bachchans – Amitabh Bachchan , Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Sarkar Raj’ was made on a budget of Rs. 30 crores and grossed almost 34 crores in India and over $1 million in USA. However, there were many disputes about the verdict on the film as the producers called it a hit, media called it average and the trade calling it a flop.

The movie mostly garnered a positive critical reception. Some reviewers said that it could not recreate the ‘Sarkar’ magic, with others stating it was eons better than its prequel and took the series to a whole new level.

Most agreed that it was a good comeback for Varma, whose last few movies ( Darling , Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag , Shiva , James , etc.) had been universally labelled as 'pathetic' by critics and viewers alike.

There was unanimous praise for the relevant premise of development politics, the many plot twists and the histrionics of Bachchan, Dilip Prabhavalkar, debutante Rajesh Shringarpore and Ravi Kale.

The performances of Abhishek and Ash (whose character has been labelled as underdeveloped by many reviewers) received comparatively mixed reviews.

Some critics felt that the intensity in the acting was seemed forced, unlike the spontaneous and natural depth that was evident in ‘Sarkar’. Almost all reviewers criticized the caricaturish portrayal of the three villains and the underdeveloped and unsatisfactory love angle between Shankar and Anita (Abhishek and Ash).

Jaya Bachchan is said to have been so impressed by ‘Sarkar Raj’, that she is urging Varma to work on the next movie of the series. Truly, Varma has said in an interview to a daily tabloid that work is being done on the plot of a possible sequel.

There are rumours that this movie will undertake the grave issue of caste, region, language and religion based politics.
