And we met him on the sets of Apoorva Lakhia’s Mission Istanbul

As I strolled on the sets of Apoorva Lakhia's upcoming film, Mission Istanbul in Madhusudan Mills yesterday, I stopped in my tracks and froze. What was George W Bush doing here? I obviously hadn't heard of the US President’s visit to India. But a closer look made it clear that he was a look-alike of George W Bush.

Brent Mendenhall plays the US President in Mission Istanbul.

Lakhia informs, "He plays President Bush in my film. He is on an official visit to India when he learns that Vivek Oberoi and Zayed Khan have stolen crucial information from an Arabic news channel."

When and where did Lakhia meet Mendenhall? "I saw him in Jay Leno's Tonight Show when I was in America, a few months ago. I got on to his website www. gwbushimpersonator.com, and the rest, as they say, is history."

Mendenhall is in demand as a George W. Bush look-alike in TV, films, corporate meetings and political gatherings. "I have done a few films but I earn most of my money by entertaining people during corporate meetings. Often after a long drawn serious meeting, I am called to give a speech, sometimes even related to the topic that they discussed in the meeting," says Mendenhall.

He has appeared on The George Lopez Show, Jay Leno's Tonight Show, X-Files, JAG, Hollywood Squares, Animal Planet and Jon Stewart's Daily Show.

The George W Bush look-alike says that he learnt about his resemblance to the President about 10 years ago, when Bush was the Governor of Texas. Doesn't Bush take objection to his public appearances? Mendenhall says, "In the US, people have far more important things to attend to rather than object to how someone makes his living."

" Apoorva is a fine director. I am enjoying working with him. He did a good job in Shootout at Lokhandwala," adds Mendelhall.

However, Mendenhall does not approve of Bush's ideologies. "I don't think we should have started the war with Iraq. I think we should withdraw our troops now," he says.

Mendenhall, who is based in the Kansas City Missouri area, adds, "While doing my appearances as the Bush look-alike, I have travelled to Canada, London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Tel Aviv, Cairo, Japan, Mexico City and Korea. This is my first visit to India. It's a very hot country but I love Indians. They are very hospitable. I look forward to coming here again."

Mission Istanbul is co-produced by Balaji Telefilms (Ekta Kapoor) and Popcorn Entertainment (Sunil Shetty).
