Manikantan, touted to be the first full-length animation film in Malayalam, will be released in November, and not just in Malayalam. It will be simultaneously released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada also, the producers said.
An English version of the film, specifically tailored to Western tastes, will follow some six months after that, Nalin Singh, who heads Sairaksha Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the company producing the film, said in a news conference here on Saturday.
The music, scored by Ilayaraja, will be released at Sabarimala on April 14, he said.
The story of the film does not basically shift from the popular myth of Lord Ayyappa , but it will be told in a way that makes it catchy, especially to children, and the western audience, Nalin Singh added.
Now there is a lot of hype about Indian films abroad. But how many non-Indians come to watch them? We want to change that. We want to take Indian folklore to the global audience, he said.
Manikantan is perhaps the first of its ilk to use as many as eight different animation techniques, each style blending harmoniously, director Reji Signs said.
Some of the most famous scenes of Indian mythology, like the churning of the Palazhi, will be shown in its fullest splendour, he said.
And the 90-minute film, which has six songs, is also a big budget one - US $ 2 million, which comes to around Rs 8 crore, Nalin Singh said.
The profits from the film will also go to fund an arts village for handicapped people in Thiruvananthapuram and sponsoring amenities, including insurance cover, for Sabarimala pilgrims.
Other members of the governing board of Sairaksha Entertainment Pvt Ltd, Allan J.Koglmeier, Mark Samlal, Sachin Gopalan and the scriptwriter Krishnakumar were present at the new conference.
