Tis the season of tributes in Bollywood ( Om Shanti Om and Saawariya anyone?) and with Dhak Dhak girl Madhuri Dixit being the flavour of the month, reliving one of her most sensuous numbers seemed too tempting a chance to miss.
And paying the dancing diva a tribute is none other than sexy Mallika Sherawat So, while Madhuri Dixit set the hearts (and imagination) racing years ago, with her Choli Ke Peechey Kya Hai number in Khalnayak , Mallika is ready to set the temperatures soaring once again by doing an act which is a tribute to the much remembered song of the nineties. In her upcoming film Welcome — being directed by Anees Bazmee — the feisty actress will be doing an elaborate song sequence that recreates the atmosphere and the music of the hit Madhuri track.
What’s more, even though the song has been performed by Mallika, the entire star cast of Welcome which includes Akshay Kumar , Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal and Katrina Kaif will be featuring in the sequence.
“The song has been conceptualised as a tribute to Choli Ke Peechey Kya Hai , which is one of its kind in the musical history of Indian cinema. Our song is not the same, but has the spirit of the original. In today’s times I cannot think of anyone better than Mallika Sherawat for the song. And she has really performed well. This will work with the audiences,” reveals Bazmee, who’s last directorial venture No Entry was a smash hit.
“The song had created a lot of flutter back then, but now the times have changed. Mallika has carried it off in style. Though it would be a challenge for anyone given the dancing capability and grace of Madhuri, but Mallika was very confident about it,” he adds.
Now, whether Mallika’s choli will create the same stir, only time can tell!
