You have seen immense success at a very young age, how did you find your way down South?
It was a very enriching experience. I was very raw when I joined films. I got to learn so much right from acting to doing makeup to conducting myself in public. I learnt everything. While Jayam established me as an actor, Anniyan raised me to a new height. The film was even dubbed in Telugu as Aparachitidu and in Hindi as Aparichit. Priyasakhi was another film that I cherish. It had a good scope for performance. I got the opportunity to work with good actors like Madhavan, Siddharth, NTR Jr. In Shankardada Zindabad, I played the role that was enacted by Dia Mirza in Lage Raho Munnabhai.
How was your experience with them?
Chiranjeevi is so child-like. He loves to joke and keeps the atmosphere lively. I jelled well with him though I worked with him for two days only. Madhavan is a different kind of an actor as he comes from Manirathnam’s camp. He is a complete performer. I have done two films with him; Ethiri and Priyasakhi.
What are your other projects in the South now?
I have a Tamil film Leelai that is on the lines of the Fardeen-Esha film Darling. But ours is a new and improved version (laughs) I am making my debut in Kannada with Monalisa in my first ever double role. It was quite an experience playing two roles simultaneously. It was very tiring also as I had to keep changing my outfit for a shot that had both the characters face to face. The film won the state award. It had Dhyan as the hero. I play a detective in Mohini , a horror film, another first for me.
You also have done a Malayalam film. How was it working with Jayaram, the top hero of Malayalam films in Novel?
Doing Novel also was an experience in itself. The film is releasing in December. And the hero Jayaram is a very down to earth and simple person. He is a superstar but has no airs at all.
For a Marathi-speaking girl from Ratnagiri, wasn’t language a barrier while doing South films?
Initially I found it very difficult but soon I learnt the languages. I would request for my lines one day prior to the shoot and learn the dialogue before going on the sets. This was how I learnt the words and soon I began understanding the language. First I picked up Telugu. Tamil, I found, was more difficult. It is a tongue twister. Now I am told I have done well for myself. This makes me feel proud.
What are your forthcoming releases?
I am doing Takkari with my first hero Nitin after four years. Then I have three releases coming up. They are Novel in December and two Hindi films.
Like every aspiring actor, you too are making a foray into Hindi films, this despite being successful in the South.
Yes. My Hindi films are Sangeeth Sivan’s Click that will be released in early next year and Love Game , being made by Srinivas of Paisa Vasool fame that will release in December or January. Shreyas Talpade and Randeep Hooda are the heroes of the two films.
