The Aussies wants to thank him for boosting tourism Down Under with 'Salaam Namaste'.
The Australian government has decided to felicitate veteran Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra. This honour comes following a 14 per cent increase in tourism in Victoria after the Yash Raj film 'Salaam Namaste was shot there. The banner will be shooting 'Chak De India' at the same locale soon.
Speaking from Australia, festival director Meetu Lange said, "We are so pleased to get a chance to felicitate the iconic filmmaker. On October 10, we also plan to have a fundraiser lunch. The proceeds will go to a charity organisation, Worldvision, which primarily deals with the rescue of Indian children."
Along with a retrospective of Chopra's films, the event will also see a fashion show by designers Surily Goel and Sabyasachi Mukherjee. "There is a growing interest in Bollywood amongst mainstream Australians."
Chopra was unavailable for comment, but his public relations person confirmed that he would be visiting Australia for the event on the given date.
Other guests from India scheduled to attend the event include Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Simi Garewal, Apoorva Lakhia, Madhavan, Kunal Kapoor and Homi Adjania.
