Chief minister YS Rajashekar Reddy announced that the belt shops in the state would be removed within a week. He asked the officials to give him a comprehensive report on the belt shops within a month. The Telugu Mahila chief Roja has been spearheading an agitation demanding the removal of belt shops. Even the TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu announced that if the party came to power, then they would remove all belt shops in the state.
YSR has in a way stolen the thunder from the TDP on this issue. YSR also announced several sops to toddy tappers. The entire loan taken by the toddy tappers from co-operative societies running into about 8.5 crore has been waived off. With this, Roja and her TDP have been effectively silences by YSR.
