Chief minster YS Rajashekar Reddy reacted promptly to a suggestion from party Chief Sonia Gandhi and announced that the hike of rupees 50 a cylinder in Andhra Pradesh will be not be passed on to the people. The state government will foot the entire hike and see that the price of cooking gas does not go up by even a rupee in the state.

The sales tax on Petrol and Diesel is also likely to be cut following directions from Sonia Gandhi. With general elections just under a year away, the congress party cannot afford to offend any section of the voters, particularly the middle class.
