The regional transport authority will organize a digital meter mela at parade grounds in Secunderabad. The RTS is organising the meal in association with the manufactures of digital meters. Auto drivers interested in fixing digital meters have to register their names at the local RTA offices. The digital meters are priced between 1500 and 1700.

The government is firm in it decision to make digital meters compulsory from January 1, 2008. Autio’s without digital meters will be fined 500 rupees and the fine will go up to 1000 and 1500 for the second and third time. After that, the autos would be seized. Some union leaders want the government to raise the minimum fare from the present 10 rupees to 14 rupees to go digital.
