Much has happened in the city of Mumbai - the city of Bollywood. First it was the Aamir Khan - Narmada issue, then the heavy rainfall and the destruction it brought along with it and now the most unfortunate bomb-blast incidents that have the commoners questioning: Is the famed spirit and resilience of Mumbai being taken for granted? How should we protest inaction? Indiatimes Movies speak to the celebs about their verdict.

Akshaye Khanna
“We must keep bouncing back like we always do in a time like this. It’s the most important thing for us a city and as a nation.”

Celina Jaitley

“Once Rabindranath Tagore said, “Where the mind is without fear, and the head is held high, into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake. India was liberated by people who had a dream for her. Where is our country? Where is our freedom? Where is our independence? Where is the security? How far will they take us for granted? This is an alarm for our leaders, they should wake up now and take charge. Once the people stand up there will be no place for them to go.”

Amrita Rao

“It’s commendable to see the citizens coming together to volunteer and serve the victims of the blast in this time of crisis. It is also understandable that administration is no God, but surely security measures can be more intelligent and adequate. The security at entrances of airports and railways is zero. Powerful screening machines everywhere are the need of the hour. The government should also provide high security to all film studios because the film industry could also be a huge target.”

Viveik Oberoi

"We should not take Mumbai's resilience for granted. I was shocked at the way people are so unaware about disaster management in the city. The situation needed to be handled with greater care. Something needs to be done about this soon. Also, a closer eye has to be kept on the smuggling of explosives into the city."

Naseeruddin Shah

“When one showed footage of flooding of Mumbai we saw pictures of kids dancing, and grown-ups shaking their hips around. You saw none of that in this footage of the train blasts, because this is damn serious. This has affected the psyche of the Mumbai people very deeply. Of course, one mourns the losses, but if this has to have a positive fall-out it will be a good thing. Yes, we have taken enough and we can’t take this anymore. The resilient spirit of Mumbaiwallahs have been taken for granted for far too long. I think it is about time things changed.”

Dia Mirza

"It's not the spirit of Bombay that makes us move. It is the lack of option, and the need to move on that makes us pick ourselves up and move ahead. It is sad that we have adapted ourselves to this chaos. The only way we can protest inaction is by not accepting things the way they are and firmly questioning ourselves."

Sonu Nigam

"The entire country should wake up and fight terrorism. It's important for authorities to be more strict and fanaticism of any religion - be it Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Chistianity, etc - should be dealt with severly. The Mumbai public is one of a kind. The culprits who intended on destroying the lifeline of Mumbai - the railways - must be a sad lot, on seeing that life was back to normal within a few hours."

Diana Hayden

“As far as the bomb blasts in the city goes, it’s difficult to totally prevent it. If terrorists can attack the Pentagon, what are Mumbai trains? I know for a fact that the police are investigating and working hard behind-the-scenes, but they can’t talk about it. There’s no point giving the cops flak. As citizens we have to become more aware. Even we tend to drift away into the old cycle of being oblivious to our surroundings.”

Amrita Arora

“Yes we’re being taken for granted. It’s almost like we’re pushed into getting used to weekly rioting and bombings. As people of India we should stand up and question our safety and more importantly our government. Like our Prime Minister said, “Come back to normal and everything will be fine.” All I can say is that it's not normal and it's not fine.”

Isha Koppikar

"My sincere condolences to those people who have lost loved ones. But I definitely feel that a clear message is being sent out to the miscreants that you can take away our lives but you cannot take away the spirit of Mumbai. I am proud to be a Mumbaikar today!"
