In what could be termed as a series of firsts, actor-turned-politician Vinod Khanna will make his television debut in Smriti Irani's new show Mere Apne (a joint venture between Smriti and Applause Entertainment) on a brand new channel, 9X, which goes on air as we speak.
The serial will go on air on tonight (November 12) at 10 pm IST, Monday to Thursday.
Smriti, who became a household name as Tulsi in the Ekta Kapoor's serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thisays of her serial, "It's a gripping family drama that revolves around a traditional north Indian family headed by Kashinath Pandey (Vinod Khanna) and his wife Shrada Pandey (Smriti Irani) and their three children."
On choosing Vinod Khanna, Smriti says, "I discussed the story with the channel and the only person who came to my mind for Kashinath Pandey's role was Vinodji. I told the channel and they immediately agreed and discussed it with him. I don't think I would have done this serial without him."
As for her going back to Balaji Telefilms, the actress quickly adds, "I didn't leave Balaji, I was asked to leave the aangan because I turned producer. If I am asked to return, I will go back. I spent seven years to create the image of Tulsi. Now I am an actor, producer and want to try new things in life."
