She's adding a new twist to an old classic and actor Urmila Matondkar's moves in Ram Gopal Varma's version of the classic Mehbooba song remind you of her hey days when she ruled the Bollywood item number game.
Mehbooba is also the first time she will share screen space with the Big B and while recreating Helen's steps was never on her mind, she is, nevertheless, nervous about the response that this song will bring her.
"The excitement soon turned to nervousness as it is such a challenge to take on this song that in itself, is perfect,” said Urmila.
Her long run down Versova beach for Ramu's Rangeela had her labeled as the bold and sexy heroine of the 90s.
Today’s Bollywood brigade of the bold and the beautiful has cottoned on to the same formula. So what's her take on the item girls today?
"I really don't have any interest in talking about them as I am sure everyone is attempting to carve their own niche. As for me, I got tagged with something with each new film because I had always maintained my on screen dignity in every role I played,” said Urmila.
Ask her about her dwindling number of films and attempts at serious cinema, and pat comes the reply about no good scripts.
"In a short span of time I have done so much variety that now I have to get something really challenging to take up a film,” she said.
