Filmmaker Suneel Darshan is determined that protégé Upen Patel’s film with him is as much talked about as it is looked forward to.

Not that the model-turned-actor didn’t get his due in his debut 36 China Town, but Darshan wants to ensure that Shakalaka Boom Boom takes Patel to another level. The musical, a desi version of Amadeus, also stars Bobby Deol, Celina Jaitly and Kangana Ranaut.

One of Darshan’s ideas is to shoot a special title track focusing on his blue-eyed boy. “To be shot extensively in New York over four days, this song will see Upen perform a song choreographed by South African choreographer Tyrone Watkins. The song will also feature about a hundred girls,” informed our source.

It’s believed that Darshan was impressed by the choreographer’s musical extravaganza Fusion, billed as a ‘Bollywood love story’. We also hear that Himesh Reshammiya, who has composed the soundtrack for the film, will be creating a special score for this number.

And it seems Reshammmiya has promised Patel that this song will leave the Ashiqui number from 36 China Town miles behind.

It’s heard that making this song will cost Darshan a cool Rs. 2.5 crore and it will be the first promo of Shakalaka Boom Boom featuring Patel.

Darshan is also roping in a UK-based international artist to playback sing for Patel. When called to confirm developments, Darshan said, “We have worked with Tyrone on a musical piece in the film but I can’t talk about this song yet as we’re still in the process of finalising certain things.”

Probed further, Darshan said, “It’s too early to say anything now. I’d rather talk about it after I’ve finished the song, lest someone else do something similar before me.”

Justifying the cost of producing this song, Darshan added, “Quantity is not the consideration, but quality is a priority. It’s not about the money spent, but making a very good song, visually and musically —that is more important.”

Shakalaka Boom Boom is slated to release around Valentine’s Day, 2007.
