John Abraham boasts of one of the better-toned bodies in the industry, which he has displayed whenever required. But now the actor has agreed to a full Monty for Vishal Bhardwaj's production No Smoking

"There's a certain amount of bare body required for the character, and I'm fine with it," says John. "As for the nude scene, yes, there will be situations where I need to undress — which is fine. I'm comfortable with my body and have shown my torso whenever I felt like. I'll go as far as Anurag's script demands. But we know that we're making a film that we want the largest number of people to see. Overt nudity will delimit the audience. And that's defeating the very purpose of the film."

John has already begun attending workshops, orchestrated by Bhardwaj. "I have never done such preparation for any role except Water. It's fascinating to work with theatre actors and see my own limitations, that's the only way I can improve," he says.

John is all for a cinema that addresses itself to social issues. "While No Smoking is an anti-smoking statement, Water and Baabul are about widow rehabilitation. Baabul is going to be my next release, followed by Kabul Express," he says.

Talking about the forthcoming Baabul, he says, "The producer-director Ravi Chopra defines dignity for me. There were so many delays during the film. But Ravi never lost his cool, never pressurised his actors to work when they were in distress. I'm glad Ravi Chopra is marketing Water in India. In the wrong hands the film's delicate message would've been ruined. You know, it's so surprising. Whenever I go abroad people don't talk about my commercially successful Bollywood films like Dhoom. They talk about Water. The film's statement on the plight of widows has made a profound impact all over the world. I feel its chances of winning the Oscar are very strong."

Even working with Rani Mukherji for the first time in Baabul has John excited. "She's such a helpful co-star, and so good on camera. Rani is one of my favourites. She gives so much of herself to the camera that she inspires her co-star to do the same. I've learnt a lot from her during Baabul."

As for his senior co-stars, "Amitji and Hemaji are such legends and oblivious of their standing. All of us need to learn a few lessons in humility from them."

A hunt is on for John's co-star in No Smoking. "I'm happy with whoever it is. I've enjoyed working with Lisa Ray in Water as much as Rani in Baabul."
