The state government is seriously planning to bring in a new rule for Medical students. The minister for finance and health K Rosaiah said this in Hyderabad on Thursday. The government wants to make it mandatory of students pursuing medicine to put in two years of practice in villages before they get their certificate.

The severe shortage of doctors in the rural areas and the resistance by senior doctors to serve in rural areas is the reason behind the thinking by the government. The government spends about 30 lakhs on medical education per student. Now, the government expects something in return. However, the government wants to go slow as the High Court in a neighboring state struck down similar legislation. Therefore the AP government wants the centre to do something in this regard.
