A film celebrating 100 days is always good news, but when that celebration also includes a pledge to earmark part of the profits to charity, it makes the success all that sweeter.
The producer of the hit Marathi film Restaurant has taken on the responsibility for completing the education of five needy children of farmers who have committed suicide in the Yavatmal district of Maharashtra.
"My film is about food, and food is brought on the table by farmers. Therefore the scheme Annadata Sukhi Bhava is meant to finance the education and help these annadata's suffering families," said Producer of Restaurant Ajit Bhure.
Actor Naseeruddin Shah was there to support Bhure's idea, which he said went beyond making touching documentaries or mere lip service.
"Aajkal Bollywood producer's ke paas paise hi kahan hote hai. (Bollywood producers never seem to have money for these poor farmer types. I have never found a producer who has spare money)," said Shah.
But, while Shah's disillusionment with Bollywood shirking, its social responsibility is evident and Bhure prefers to maintain a more positive outlook.
"Look I have made a start I am sure people will follow they have been enquiring," said Bhure.
So, while Bhure's small but sure step towards improving a farmer's life once again highlights the social responsibility that regional cinema has been often shouldering, it is expected that someone in the bigger world of Bollywood is paying heed to the positive stance that this much smaller film took.
